Adobe Illustrator- AM Cassandre & Ryszard Kaja posters (Annette)

For my poster based on either AM Cassandre or Ryszard Kaja, I opted to use one of AM Cassandre's Pieces, The design I have used is a man sitting at a table drinking a glass of wine, it is a very abstract piece of artwork which allows you to use adobe illustrator well as you are able to experiment with a lot of different features that the software offers.

As you can clearly see, I made my life easier by using 3 separate layers to control different parts of creation. On layer 1 I added the photo and used the Pen and curvature tool to make the chair back and seat, I also changed the colour of them to something colourful. This was my process throughout. By doing this and locking the layers as you go, it makes sure that you don't move anything by accident.

If I had more time with this piece of work I would have added more colour changes and made some different and more complex shapes, I do like what I have done within the time frame that was given during the lesson. This was a good task to further my knowledge of Illustrator and learn it to a good standard.

AM Cassandre & Ryszard Kaja Information & Interesting facts

Cassandre was a French typeface artist, he was a painter and an artist who influenced advertising art during the 20th Century. He was born in Ukraine on the 24th of January 1901 and died in June 1968.

Ryszard Kaja was a painter, stage designer, and costume designer from Poland, he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Poznan in 1984 and earned a degree. he was born 16th of January 1962 and sadly passed away on April 17th, 2019.

Exposure simulator and learning about the features of a DSLR (Joella)

DSLR definitions:

ISO: For photography, ISO refers to the sensitivity of the camera's sensor. The ISO setting is one of three elements used to control exposure. ISO controls the amount of light that is let in and therefore how dark or light your photos will be.

Aperature: Aperature is in the section of the camera that can be adjusted to let more or less light. A small aperture lets in less light and leads to a darker image, while a larger one can flood the sensors with light. Also, the aperture affects the depth of field of your photos, the range between the nearest and farthest objects in focus within a picture, and blurred background to help pop out the in-focus subject of the photo is achieved with a wide aperture

Shutter speed: Shutter speed is exactly what it sounds like, the speed at which the shutter of the camera closes. A fast shutter speed creates a shorter exposure, the amount of light that the camera takes in while a slow shutter speed gives the photographer a longer exposure, the best shutter speed for wildlife, sports and action photography would be 1/500

This shot was done with a shutter speed of 1/30, F-stop Aperture of f/11, and ISO of 50

For this image as you can see the depth of field is low as you can only really see the main point of focus which is the object.

The photo is soft and in focus

I Carried out a second experiment, This shot was done with a shutter speed of 1/60, an F-stop Aperture of f/15, and an ISO of 100

This image as you can see is more grainy as firstly the shutter speed has gone up by 30, but there is still a clear depth of field.

Shutter speed 1/500, an F-stop Aperture of v2.8, and then an ISO of 50

The depth of view here is far more prominent than in the other experiments as the background is completely blurred and the main point of focus is the object

Shutter Speed 1/500, F-stop Aperture f/16 and then then ISO is 800

as seen on screen this is the worst quality image so far as the field of view is poor, there is no motion or background blur in the photo, and it is gritty.

Audience Theories (Joella)

Hypodermic theories: This theory is where the media will provide people with information and slowly but surely the ideas will stick with the person almost nurturing them. For example, if a news program presents a biased or misleading report on a political issue, the hypodermic needle theory would suggest that the audience will immediately accept the information as truth would be influenced by it.

Cultivation Theory: The idea of this is the fact that media companies and people believe that they can over time change audience member's approach to reality. Those with heavy viewing habits become suspicious of other people's motives, expecting the worst. For example, heavy viewers of violent television are much more likely to become afraid of walking alone at night in fear that they will get robbed

Two-step flow theory: This is where Influencers on social media like TikTok and Instagram have a huge influence on people's designs and their lives, e.g. Ksi, Logan Paul etc. When an influential political pundit interprets news that comes from the media and relays their opinion to the public.

Uses and gratifications theory:  The uses for consuming media. the target audience and the demographics and psycho graphics, the entertainment side is also really important because people will have different reasons for watching something whether that would be wanting to find out about a person or to enjoy the content that they are streaming. For entertainment people use media, they watch movies and TV shows or listen to music to relax and escape from their daily routine.

 Photography Composition homework (Joella)

Pattern/Symmetry: This composition is finding similar-looking objects that can create an interesting photograph. As you can see in this photo. It is a row of skyscrapers in New York City, The fact that the buildings are all lined up in a row creates this symmetrical feel to the photo.

Viewpoint: By changing the viewpoint when you take the photo you can dramatically change the feel and resulting image, This is a photo of the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, The view and the lighting bring the green out of the pitch to make it pop and make it change the image with the clouds in the sky.

Birds Eye View: The viewer is looking down onto the subject of the photograph as you can see a pair of trainers being looked down upon.

Framing: Using something in the photograph to enclose the image, as seen here the window frame surrounds the image and you are able to see the building in the background.

Depth of View: Giving a photograph a sense of depth by focusing in on a subject and letting the background become more blurry. As seen here a photo of my cat as the point of focus with the background blurry.

Worm's eye view: The viewer is looking up at the subject, as seen here looking up at the subject.

Rule of thirds: Divide the viewfinder into 3x3 9 equal squares, keeping the important part of the image at the centre also it makes it more visually interesting, as seen here with these cool coloured triangular lights.

DIGITAL IMAGE TYPES (Annette)

Resolution: Image resolution is typically described in PPI which refers to how many pixels are displayed per inch of an image. It is also the level of detail contained in an image, the higher the resolution and richer the pixel count the more details you will see in the photo.

How does resolution affect image quality and size?

Higher resolutions mean more pixels per inch, which means there will be more pixel information creating a high-quality image, Images with lower resolutions mean that the image will need fewer pixels.

What are the differences between these?

Jpeg/Jpg- a commonly used method of lossy compression for images they are also often compressed to much smaller files than other types of image files this would make them load faster on websites and reduce bandwidth, JPEG is one of the most popular image formats to use and it is supported by most web browsers and image editing software.

png- A raster graphics file that allows for lossless data compression, this type of media mile is particularly popular with web designers because it can handle graphics with transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds.

Graphics Interchange format - The graphics interchange format is a bitmap image format, that also supports images and illustrations, A GIF is used to animate images in the smallest file size, it is a soundless video that will loop continuously. This file also supports rendering with transparent backgrounds.

SVG- Scalable vector graphics is an XML-based vector image formation defining two-dimensional graphics, also having sport for interactivity and animation.

Michael Batory's Experimentation and Information (Annette)

For this Michael Batory Inspired poster, I have taken a mysterious-looking chair and attached actual legs to the chair acting like the actual legs that are holding it up, A lot of Batory's work is based on bringing someone to life by giving it human features in his work.

Michal Batory is a Polish artist, Born in Lodz, Poland, in 1957. He studied at the University of Fine Arts. In 1987 he settled In Paris where he worked in a graphic design agency and also did free lace graphic design work.

As for this piece of work, If I had more time I would have added a gradient in the background, I also would have made it so that the legs looked more sunken into the image.

My process for this piece of work was I made it on Adobe Photoshop, I used a rectangular format, Firstly I imported a photo of a chair and then equipped the direct selection tool, I then selected the masking tool and allowed it to get rid of the background, Furthermore, I found Some feet, A left foot to be specific and then lined it up directly on the leg of the chair, to get the right foot exactly the same I just selected the rotation tool and turned it.

My overall thoughts on my work are that I could have produced something better, but with the time that was allowed I don't feel like I was able to do what I wanted, But it gives me experience for next time which is a good thing.

Thoughts on Michael Batory's Work?

Michael Batory creates very niche pieces of work, I think his work is really interesting because it is very minimalist with what he does, as you can see here, there is a very vibrant blue background with the main point of focus being a large red lipstick with some small writing around it.

My Ideas for an Event (Annette)

My first Idea of an event would have to be a music event, In particular house music, this event would be where different big-name house DJs and up-and-coming house DJs all come together to learn from each other, there would also be a ticketing ballet that the general public could enter it has 1,000 places available and they would be able to come to the event to eat, drink, listen to the music, dance and have a great time.

Another Idea of an event would be a YouTube and influencer event where you tubers and influencers meet their fans and are able to interact, this would be a limited event so only 2,500 tickets are available.

Another idea of an event would be to do with fashion and streetwear, this concept would be where people are able to reserve a stand, they are able to sell second-hand shoes and clothing and people who are also interested are able to come along to buy or sell their items.

How am I going to create the photographic and graphic posters? (Annette)

I am going to use software like Illustrator, In Design, and Adobe Express, I will gain the ideas from my own knowledge and will actively research online, The posters will be eye-catching, easy to understand and read, and effective at getting the idea and point across to the audience.

Eventbrite header: This is one template concept idea, the wording and colours would be different but just to show the eye-catching feel and the easily understandable writing.

Poster: This is a template idea for my poster, it is going to be an informative poster to let people know about the event that will be happening which is the main purpose of the poster to promote and let people and the audience know about what they will be buying tickets for and give them an insight.

Formal elements of photography (Joella)

Texture: This image is an extreme close-up of what looks to be a tree trunk, as you can see there are a lot of textures, it is rigid, Hard, bumpy

Pattern: As you can see in this photo there is a clear sense of consistency with the hexagon design which makes this building side into a pattern which would draw in the audience.

Lines: This photo of a dog running across the bridge, this photo has been very cleverly taken as the lines that lead until the start of the bridge are in shot at all times, this makes the audience look all the way beyond where the dog is.

Form: This photo displays form as this image of what looks to be walls of entrances but they are all in a row so it gives a good opportunity for a photo, they have real depth and good curvature on the front of them.

Shape: This image shows the shape from the sun beaming down and making a shadow which creates this cool shape on the stairs

Light in photography (Joella)

Key lighting: This is the primary source of light that is coming in your photo, the strength, colour and lighting would determine the sort of light on the image.

Fill Lighting: This is used to reduce the contrast of a scene to match the dynamic range of the media.

Hair Lighting: A hair light, which beams a focused source of light onto the subject's hair, is ideal for portraits or commercial work.

Background lighting: A background light is used to illuminate the background of an image this provides separation between the subject and the background

Camera lighting: The position and quality of light can affect any number of things in your final photo, from clarity to tone to emotion.

Split lighting style: A lighting technique that lights up half of a subject's face while leaving the other half in a shadow, essentially splitting the face. this is by using a perpendicular light source.

Rembrandt lighting style: Utilising one light and one reflector or two separate lights, is popular as it makes the images look both dramatic and natural.

Butterfly lighting style: lighting pattern used in portrait photography where the key light is placed above and pointing down on the subject's face. this creates dramatic shadows.

loop lighting style: Creates a circular shadow on the subject's face just under the nose. This can be achieved by placing the key light 45 degrees to the side of the face.

Broad lighting style: This type of lighting is set up where the area of the subject's face is lit more brightly.

Light and photography

This is an example of Rembrandt, one light and one reflector were used to create this camera effect.

This is an example of split lighting, where one side of the face goes completely dark and then the rest is lit up, this was done by only lighting up one side with the fill light.

This is an example of butterfly lighting, this did not work quite as planned because of the reflection from the glasses, this was done by holding a key light above/In front of the face to only light up that one singular key area.

This is another example of butterfly lighting, but in this case, this is how to do it correctly, as you can see there are no glasses and this makes this butterfly effect work well, it is almost as if there is a butterfly outline on the face

This is a loop and broad lighting, this was done by looking towards the light, the key light and the fill light was on whilst taking the photograph.

Photographer research (Joella)

Imogen Cunningham:

Cunningham was an American photographer known for her botanical photography, nudes and industrial landscapes, she was a member of the California-based ground f/64 known for its sharp focus rendition of simple subjects. Imogen was born in April 1883 and sadly passed away in June 1976

For this first image it is black and white, there is a really good depth of field as the audience is focusing in on the person in the image. there is a good use of lighting in the image as it is shining on her hand covering her face.

I really like this photo as I do feel like there is a hidden message behind it which is up to the person looking at the photo to interpret, I like the use of the rigid texture of the wall in the background also.

Ansel Adams:

Ansel Adams was an American landscape photographer and environmentalist known for his black-and-white images of the American West. He helped found f/64, He was born on the 20th of February 1902 and died in April 1984

From this image, the pain talking point would be the fact that it is black and white, but as seen from what looks like a river in the image there are leading lines that make you look further back into the image.

I really like this landscape image as it really catches your attention the detail is really well brought out you can even see the detail in the water

Eliot Porter:

Eliot Porter was an American photographer best known for his colour photographs of nature, she was born in 1901 and died in 1990 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

This is Porter's most famous photograph from 1989 he captured this photo called ''Calm Beauty'' of the American wilderness.
What I enjoy most about this photo is the use of symmetry and how the trees are all together it gives the photo the look of that they are all in line. I also like the colours in the photos too.

Typestyles (Annette)

This writing here would be classed as sans serif, this is seen because the font is square-based.

This writing is serif, we can identify this because the ends of the letters have flicks and are more curly.

This is Slab Serif, This has a thicker typeface.

This would be an engraving script as you can see the writing is soft and curly and looks like something that would be seen on a wedding invitation.

Handwriting script is less harsh on the eye than the engraving script and this would be used also in invitations or general writing.

Legibility and Colour systems (Anette)

The visual response that roughly corresponds to luminescence contrast is the brightness difference between symbols and their backgrounds. A symbol with the same luminescence as its background will usually be illegible. The best colour for legibility would be a white background, simple and classic with black text. It provides the audience with the highest readability ratio. Blues and Greys also provide the right contrast and work well on white backgrounds.

RGB refers to a system representing the colours used on a digital display screen. Red, Green and blue can be combined in various proportions to obtain any colour in the visible spectrum. The RGB model uses 8 bits each from 0 to 23 from red, green and blue colours.

CMYK stands for the four colours applied during the printing process: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black. This is a subtractive colour system, which means that the ink must be removed to obtain lighter colours.

Designing an event poster mock-up(Anette)

These posters are for my event, I designed and roughly sketched some ideas and what I wanted the design to look like. I had to draw the Mock-Up in different sizes, portraits, landscapes and made for a social media banner.

Fashion Photography(Joella)

Editorial Photography: Images that Appear alongside text in print or online publications, which are created to help tell a story or support the narrative in the text, with a focus on creating a specific mood or tone for the piece, If a photograph of a rock climber going down a mountain was used to accompany a magazine an article about rock climbing it would be considered an editorial photograph.

Advertising Photography: This is quite simply the photography that is used and taken to sell products or services. When done well photography advertising encourages its audience to be interested in the service. therefore, this advertising channel is vital to a brand campaign.

Beauty Photography: Beauty Photography is where a close-up image is taken that captivates the viewer. It can be intriguing, seductive, and innocent. The model can be looking directly into the camera or away from it as long as the image produces a pleasant, response.

Hard Lighting: High light is created by setting up a single point of light that casts very distinct shadows and provides a high contrast look to your shot, with shark graduations between light and the shadow, a camera flash is an example of a light that would create a hard light.

Soft Lighting: Soft lighting is a type of light with few hard shadows that's bright yet balanced. In soft lighting, the transition between the light and the shadows is more of a gradient and much smoother. When your subject is bathed in soft light, there will be little to no shadows on their face.

How to set up the studio for fashion photography: Firstly this Fashion photography studio, the photographer has got a camera on a low-down tripod, The model is sitting in between 2 light boxes whilst sitting on a stool, and there also seems to be a lamp which is shining down onto the set which is by the photographer in front of the model. This set-up offers a good range of lighting to capture the fashion image.

Describe how Fashion photography has changed over the years: Photography was the very first thing that offered fashion designers a way to make their creations known all over the world. On top of that, it allows people to have a direct look at their work and be able to have an opinion on the new trends.
As digital cameras and mobile phones became more advanced they were able to produce higher quality images. Digital photography enables the individual to assess the quality of the image immediately after it has been taken and allows for easier photo editing.

GOOGLE FORMS RESEARCH (Yasmin)

For my Fashion and street-wear event, I am trying to make it meet our consumer's needs and wants. By doing this I carried out some Primary Market research finding out people's thoughts and feelings towards fashion and streetwear. I created a Google Forms page with a range of different questions to help further our event. In doing this I will make this event within the consumer's best interests and better and grow the event.

As seen from the responses from Google Forms over 60% of people would prefer to choose clothes that are comfortable rather than look good. Over 80% of people who answered the Google Forms document shop for clothes or accessories every month! We asked people ''What are your thoughts on wearing Pre-owned clothes'', here are some of the responses that we got.

''I think its good because it is good for the environment''
''Nothing to be ashamed of''

The general consensus around wearing pre-owned clothes is the fact that people advocate it and think it is good.

I also asked people which Slogan they preferred out of 'Streetwear Today Streetwear Tomorrow' 'Streetwear the Only Way to Go' 'The Streetwear Spirit' The winner by 50% of the votes was 'Streetwear the Only Way to Go'

The final question that we asked on the Google forms is have people been to a fashion or streetwear event? Over 80% of the people said that they had not been to an event of this kind but they would love to go in the future.

PRESENTATION OF IDEAS POWERPOINT

For this PowerPoint presenting my ideas about my event, My aim was to make sure it was as clear as possible so that people could have a good idea of what they could expect about my fashion and streetwear event. I achieved this by explaining the demographic of the target market and primary research in order to make it as successful as possible in supplying people's needs and wants. I also importantly discussed where I will be promoting this event which is absolutely integral if we want to make this a lucrative and successful event.

EVENT PLANNING MIND MAP

For this mind map, I wanted to convey the ideas that are going to be put into use for the event in terms of demographic and the marketing strategy for the event, for example, the 14-27 age range is recommended for this event and we are making sure that it is all-inclusive to everyone regardless of their position, we are making sure that it is near a major train station and busses nearby.

GRAPHIC POSTER

For my graphic poster which was created in Adobe Illustrator, I wanted to create a design that would catch the eye of the audience while also making sure that it is informative and people are able to consume the information that they need. I took inspiration from an event brand called Sneaker Con, they are very much into creating very in-your-face colour and animated posters which I enjoy making and looking at.

How did I do it?

Firstly I made this poster Portrait before I even opened the new illustrator project. I then added my first layer which was called background so I could make it yellow, I tried some different gradients with contrasting colours but I thought that this was most effective as I have got a lot on the poster the background didn't need to be too hectic. Using the paintbrush tool I then created the abstract bubble behind the centre of the poster which was straightforward. I added text and used the extrude and bevel tool which allowed me to make them at different angles which adds a lot to this poster

11th October 2023

GRAPHIC SOCIAL MEDIA HEADER

For my social media header, I decided to create an Eventbrite page, My reason behind doing this is that I wanted to cover all grounds, firstly Eventbrite not only is a place where people can buy tickets to an event but it does a great job at allowing people to interact and promote events, I feel as though I have covered both grounds here. I created this by using Adobe Illustrator and wanted to create something clear and easy for people to interact and relate with.

How did I do it?

Firstly, I found an Eventbrite template online to start with so I was able to understand where each element was supposed to be placed. Secondly, I reformatted my graphic poster in order to make it landscape so it was possible to upload it to my Eventbrite page. I also blanked out writing and added my own writing to fit in with the specifications of my event which came with ease, For the font that was used, for the most part, I used a Slab-Serif font which I felt was eye-catching yet fitting with my header.

12th October 2023

Planning Document

For my planning document, I wanted to create a plan that is the most effective in order to have the most time possible to complete my work. I feel as though I have done this well as I have got a clear understanding of what I am going to do each day.

13th October 2023

PHOTOGRAPHIC POSTER

For my Photographic poster, I did my best in creating something with similar colour schemes to my graphic poster, As seen from both the backgrounds are a shade of yellow, I used clothing on this poster to display to the audience the sorts of things and items of clothes that you can expect to see at one our of new and growing events. I used all of the same aspects in terms of the promotion and the information given about the event on both posters.

How did I do it?

Firstly, I Created a template, I used a framing tool in order to make sure that the pictures were in Line, I also made a yellow and orange half and half gradient for the background, I imported Clouds and masked them which I thought looks interesting and gives it a good effect too.

PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIAL MEDIA HEADER

For my photographic social media header I used the same design as my photographic event poster but I just remapped the size of it so it was able to be a social media header.

How did I do it?

Firstly, I used command + C and then Command + V to allow for all of the content of the poster to get on a new software, I then used a facebook social media header and then lined up and fitted everything on to this social media header

CREATING YOUR OWN EVENT FINAL PRODUCTS EVALUATION

Creating this event, My sole aim was to create something where people from all different walks of life, all different background, they were able to come together to buy and sell clothes interact with each other and have a good time, and the best thing about it is the fact that it is all under one roof. We have absolutely made sure that Streetwear Station is of access to anyone. It was a priority that we were going to hire a venue that was on top of a major train station.

My graphic poster is inspired by a brand that I like called Sneaker-Con, there designs are usually very animated and in your face and this is what I wanted to go with something that would catch the eye.
Along with my graphic social media header, It was the same concept we just reformatted it so it was able to be suitable for social media header, the graphic design was created to also be informative as because the posters are so vibrant it is showing what you can expect from one of our events

My photographic poster and social media header was inspired by me wanting to create something that fitted in with the brand, I did not want to create something that looked completely different with none of the same colours etc. So I made sure that these included shades of yellow and oranges, Included the same information too.

Using Primary market research I was able to understand from my audience what they liked and didnt like and found out information regarding their interests in streetwear and fashion, Using Primary research I found out what slogan was liked the most and was able to add it onto my products.

For my products I had a plan in terms of what I thought I wanted it to look like in my head, I feel as though this has turned out well as I think the quality of the work is to a good level but in the future I will of course be looking to improve my work as I try to every time.

For my graphic products , I created them on adobe Illustrator and for my photographic products I created them on Adobe express. I would have liked to have created them all on Adobe illustrator, Unfortunately this was not possible due to access to the softwares, In terms of the graphic posters I used a lot of techniques that I have learned over the past 12-18 months learning this software, To create the backgrounds I used the gradient tool which gives the products a good feel and effect, I also used the paintbrush tool in order to draw things like the bubble which the title is on, To create an effect on the slogan at the bottom of the products I used the Extrude and Bevel tool which is so effective when wanting to make the writing more exciting.

Like I said before, I carried out both primary and secondary market research, I used google forms for my primary and used standard research for my secondary, I found that it helped so much in my decision making and knowing what to do, using secondary research gave me a lot of inspiration of other peoples streetwear and fashion events.

There we problems on the way most definitely but to overcome them i made sure that I stayed calm and figured out the best solution to sort out what we needed to do.

The design process went well as I know what I wanted to do, Like I said before I completed the work to a good standard but there is always room for improvement and can do better. It communicates well with the target demographic as it is proved that this style of poster has been successful before.

I would allow myself more time for the posters and make sure that the standard is higher than It was this time as i want to build and improve
